Accountant

The DuPage Water Commission, operator of the second largest waterworks system in Illinois, is seeking a full-time, experienced Accountant to perform varied tasks as needed to support the Finance Department. This position’s hours are typically 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, however occasional overtime may be required. This is a non-exempt position.

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Financial Administrator, the Accountant assists in the accounting and finance activities of the Commission including, but not limited to, the recording, preparing, and reconciliation of financial statements, investments, accounts payable, billing, and payroll.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
The qualified candidate for the Accountant position shall possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business management, finance or a closely related field. CPA Certification preferred but not required. Experience preferred is two (2) years of progressively responsible finance work, preferably in the public sector. An equivalent comparable amount of training, education or experience will be considered.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Knowledge of governmental accounting.
• Knowledge of computerized financial systems.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality as appropriate.
• Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail while multitasking.
• Ability to work for periods of time with little to no supervision.
• Ability to deal with members of the Board, staff, and the public in a helpful, calm, and efficient manner.
• Ability to learn, understand, and adhere to all applicable safety precautions and procedures.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The Salary Range is $80,000-$110,000 depending upon qualifications. The Commission provides a comprehensive benefits package.

Assistant Operator

The DuPage Water Commission, operator of the second largest waterworks system in Illinois, is seeking a full-time, experienced Assistant Operator to perform all the daily duties associated with the operation of the DuPage Pumping Station and its remote facilities. This includes general maintenance tasks on various pieces of equipment in the pump station, including but not limited to oil changes and greasing of equipment, cleaning, making minor adjustments and basic overhauls of equipment, maintaining records and diagnosing operating problems and performing necessary corrective actions.  Work schedule for this position is a rotating shift.

The qualified candidate shall possess a High School diploma or equivalent.  Completion of technical programs, such as building operations, HVAC, electrical, automotive or industrial mechanics is preferred.  Experience with computer programs is preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Ability to handle a variety of basic tasks with minimal supervision.
• Ability to learn and effectively use Computerized Maintenance Management System software.
• Ability to learn, understand, and adhere to all applicable safety precautions and procedures.

PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL STANDARDS:
Pre-Employment Drug and Alcohol screening and an annual physical exam.
Standing, walking, reaching, stooping, crouching, twisting, bending and crawling, and climbing stairs and ladders.
Ability to lift over 80 pounds.
Ability to wear the proper personal protective equipment.
Work in the elements including occasional severely inclement weather.
Working occasionally in confined spaces and on elevated surfaces.
This position is covered by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 399 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license.
Starting salary is $27.00 to $31.00 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.
